US EPA Brownfields Assessment Grant

The City of Newberry received $500,000 in grant funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to address brownfield properties. Grant funds are being used to complete environmental site assessments (Phase I and II, and Asbestos and Lead Based Paint Surveys) on selected brownfield sites in the City of Newberry. Other grant activities include community outreach, cleanup and redevelopment planning, and visioning.

Brownfields

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines a brownfield as a property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant.
